To celebrate the month of Ramadan, and to bring about a better understanding of muslims in Britain, a group of students from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) have set up a tent in the gardens of London University, in Mallet St., central London.

 

The organisers who are also helped by volunteers, have created a platform in the hope of showing the best of Ramadan and the spirit of charity associated with it, by inviting muslims and non-muslims to the tent, offering them special Ramadan food for Iftar (breaking fast) and to share with them their prayers and  good wishes. These young students and volunteers are hoping to demonstrate how muslims can integrate in the host countries. They also hope to change the perception, so prevalent in some media, that associate muslims with violence. This is part of a project called “Ramadan Tent Project” launched last year in London and is now celebrated in a number of other countries. Faranak Kiasaraie went to visit and  talk  to the organisers.
